The figures featured on your typical tour through Philly’s Historic District are predominantly men, from the Founding Fathers on down.

But what about the women who contributed so much to the history of the city and the nation? Even in times when they were afforded less power and fewer rights, female leaders were very active in Philadelphia. But other than Betsy Ross, their names have been elided from most tourist traipses through Old City — until now.

Thanks to a Haverford grad Rebecca Laureanna Fisher, you can now take a tour that unearths the history of Philly’s most badass women — “cool colonial women, change makers, sex workers and more” through Beyond the Bell Tours.

CURO will be gathering a group of women for a private tour in April 2019, with Beyond the Bell. If you're interested in joining us for what is sure to be a fun, interesting and inspirational day, please let us know you would like to be sent an invitation.

Proposed Itinerary (Subject to Change):

1. We'll start at independence hall where explore the legacy of our forgotten Philly founder Hannah Callowhill Penn

2. Then we'll head to Pennsylvania Hall, which burned down three days after it was built because of some outspoken sisters

3. Then we'll visit where Peggy the revolutionary war spy lived 

4. At Washington Square, this is where we usually take a break. We generally bring a snack, but also offer a cafe stop/ bathroom break

5. We'll move onto Pennsylvania Hospital where we'll discuss the incredible history of Women in Medicine in Philadelphia and the notorious Jeering Episode 

6. We'll end at the Meg Saligman Studios to see the studio of a famous female muralist (pictured)

7. Ending the tour at Tria Wine Bar

We plan to meet in front of Independence Hall at 4:45pm.
